I watched it today with my sister and I liked it. I can't say I feel much sympathy for Katniss (she fell kind of flat) but it was interesting anyway. Though I admit I am more interested in that world's past than its future. Are there any answers in the books? Why is Panem like that? Where is the rest of the world? Does every other nation sit and watch kids being murdered?

There's so much more in the books, including Katniss's emotions. I highly recommend the series.

That's good to hear. Maybe I'll download it for the tablet.

The explanation they give in the movie is really all I can remember being mentioned about why the games are held. They talk about it a little more at length, but they don't mention other places in the rest of the world or much else. Katniss is pretty unlikable in the books imo I do recommend the books, though. It explains everyone's motivations and everything much better and things make a lot more sense.

Yeah I ended up more interested in the world than the characters too. It definitely goes more in depth in the books, especially the second and third ones. The first one really only sets it up for the bigger plot. Katniss isn't too likable in the books either xD

As far as I know the book never mentions the other nations? It just explains Panem and Panem only... Which I'm really disappointed about. Unless Panem is actually the entire world. (It never explains?)

I think I liked Katniss a lot more in the book because I read it after Jennifer Lawrence was cast and even though the character was supposed to have dark hair, etc...I kept picturing Katniss as Lawrence's character from Winter's Bone which I thought was utterly fantastic.

oooh the books definitely explain it better. there isn't much word about other countries save for a small comment in the second or third book, but my impression is that Panem's cut off from the rest of the world and yeah, the first book explains why the rest of the country's fine with the games going on.

I had the same reaction. It makes you want to know more about it :)

Katniss is a hard-to-like character and she knows it, beceuse of her personality, and the books are written in her first-person POV so you have to gauge her by her effect on everyone else. I do think you can root for her.

I liked the movie a lot! :)
